This week I had my taxes done, after owning a little over $500 last year and thinking I had solved the problem, i expected at least a little refund this year. Wrong! I owe $1420.77 this year. I still have my tuition rebate to file when I get my statement back but still what a crappy feeling :(.
How are you guys making out this year? Any tips?
I last posted that my city has beat our record for amount of snow fallen in a given winter. Well we’ve got more on the way! I thought it was supposed to be spring on Friday:(. Yesterday I went in early to FT job and worked later at PT job so I worked a 7:30-9:00 day which I do twice a week. I came home and noticed the driveway hadn’t been plowed yet but thought nothing of it and continued to attempt to get in the driveway in 4WD. Well I got stuck. I have NEVER gotten stuck with that vehicle before. It took myself, 4 men, a truck with a plow, and a tractor over an hour to get me out. I wanted to tell them “just push me in the drive way off the road!” but they wanted to back me out so they could clear the driveway. So after many towing attempts I finally got out but…my rear bumper is cracked.
If you remember, today is the day I brought my Jeep in for inspection. The girl at the desk texted me and told me my bill would be $688.08….you may also recall that the balance of my savings account is $650. Today is also payday. I am so thankful that I have the money to pay for the need repairs (I trust this garage, I used to play hockey with the owner/operator’s daughter and know the family). I am thankful but also bummed. I keep trying to tell myself, “this is WHY you’re saving! So you can afford these things when they come up!” it still sucks though.
I’m going to hold off getting my bumper repaired for a few weeks until I can get a little more cash together. Luckily this will be a good week for overtime for me. Hopefully I can pad that savings account again shortly.
Looking on the bright side, things I am thankful for:
– I’m thankful I have the cash in my savings to pay for the repairs
-I’m thankful BF was home last night (he leaves for Truro, N.S. tomorrow for a few days)
-I’m thankful for my new neighbour-friend with a tractor who not only towed me out but also cleared our whole driveway
-I’m thankful to have a garage whom I trust don’t lie to me about the price of repairs/labour and I know that they money I spend there provides income for a great family
-I’m thankful I’m able to work overtime hours to make some more cash
-I’m thankful spring is Friday
That time of the month again folks! I’m just digging out from yet another snow fall. My city has beat our snowfall record this year and has had the most snow we’ve seen for about 50 years. Bleh!
Debt as of March 18th, 2015
Student Line of CREDIT: $8,562.22
Up a little bit from last month but I’ll credit that to $98 car maintenance and registration on my Visa and I also get paid tomorrow so timing makes a difference! Tomorrow is the big day, my Jeep is going in for annual inspection. Last year it cost me over $600 to pass inspection and then over a thousand later in the year! I’m hoping I can make it through this year with around $300 but that might be wishful thinking. Wish me luck!!
I don’t know if this happens to other people but I really hate when I bring my vehicle in for a “$29.99” oil change special and the guy talks down to me about my vehicle and trys to get me to add on a lot of extra stuff. The garage I normally go to are wonderful to deal with and I’ve never had this happen. They’re flexible with calling/texting me the verdict while I’m at work and I trust what they recommend. This is the last time I try to get in for a “quick oil change”.
Any other ladies have this problem with auto shops talking down to them?
Oh my goodness what a long week! I’ve been sick since Sunday and can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. Unfortunately I haven’t been able to see my new nephew since he was born because I didn’t want to bring my germy self around him but on Tuesday I get to spend the whole day at my sister’s house hanging out with them. I have an earned day off from work from not taking any sick days last year and my sister is still recovering from her surgery so it’s a day with the nephews for me and I can’t wait!
I was able to put a good chunk on my Visa yesterday (pay day) however I have an appointment booked for my MVI on March 19th and the closer it gets the more nervous I get! I’m just hoping it doesn’t cost more than the amount currently in my savings account. I’m happy I have some money set aside but I’m so used to seeing that balance in there that it’ll make me sad to see it go down.
Low of my Week: Going home sick from work on Monday
High of my Week: BF brought home popsicles and ginger ale for me
